The MWSC/NFPW commitment to service extends beyond its membership. We strive to encourage the next generation of media professionals as well. Our primary outreach effort is the annual High School Communications Contest. High School students in public or private schools may enter work published in their school newspapers (print or web versions), broadcasts for television based school news, and work published in community media outlets, such as community newsletters. MWSC sponsors the South Carolina contest, sending first place winners in each category on to the national competition sponsored by NFPW.
MWSC Members may also be available to offer student focused presentations about the various professional duties they hold as professional communicators. In addition, members may be available to offer presentations about Sunshine Week, (March 16-22, 2015) a nationwide awareness effort instituted to highlight the importance of freedom of information and open government.
